June 29, 2012. That's my diaversary date -- the date that my HbA1c confirmed my type 2 diabetes. It really came as no surprise when I stop to think about it. In some ways it was actually a relief. I had answers. Even though a life-long disease wasn't what I wanted to hear, the answers were welcomed as they explained a lot.
I literally come from a long line of type 2 diabetics -- both my parents, one grandparent two siblings and multiple uncles and aunts. It was pretty much inevitable that at some point diabetes would come knocking on my door. There are those that might say that my lifestyle choices (yes, I'm overweight) are what have led me to this point, but based on my family history I would say there was a lot more than that (especially seeing how my skinny vegan brother is diabetic too).
So, this is my blog about my journey with diabetes -- my mountain to climb to keep myself healthy for, literally, the rest of my life.
